We made it to Wednesday!
Today we wished Stacy and Carley safe travels and fun experiences as they headed off for their overnight trip to San Benito and Aguacate. Then Monica, Florecita, Caroline and myself were going to see a few patients on the restorative program for the morning..... well that thought changed when we went to the Immigration Office to renew our passports. In Belize, you can only have a 30 day visa, so ours expired on the 31st. We figured we could renew it on August 1st, since we had the afternoon off.... We were told wrong. We first get to the immigration office, wait in a long line for a while, then the lovely teller lady tells us that we should have come yesterday and that ours was officially expired now and that we needed a letter, which we did not have. We had to drive back to Hillside, have the amazing administrator Joyce write us a letter, then go back to town to state our case. Good thing when we went back there was another man working, of whom Monica was familiar with, so she was able to chat with him and help us get the papers. Once you get the papers, you have to go across the street to pay for an extension, and then go back to the immigration office and have your passport stamped...... what a process that was- but worth it to be legal in Belize.
Caroline and I had Wednesday afternoon off because our first community class was Wednesday night. I got a quick nap in and was able to relax and read! It was great. Then it was time to head to San Pedro Columbia, a nearby village where our community class was going to be. The need for this class was brought to Monica's attention from a nurse from the San Pedro Clinic. There has been a significant amount of women, specifically, with low back and neck pain. So Caroline and myself designed a class to address such issues. The topic on Wednesday night was posture and how to fix your posture, by tightening abdominals, tucking your bottom, pulling shoulders back etc.... we had a fun time instructing the ladies in the class how to do specific postural corrections. This group of 6 women who attended the class were great! They were so enthusiastic to learn from us and participate in what activities we had for the night. It was so nice to have patients want to work with us and participate in activities. The women seemed to be enjoying the class and the company of their friends! It was a successful first night!
